about us

Our mission is to connect organizers affiliated with Stanford University across departments, backgrounds, and positions. We gain power when we work together from a diverse range of roles and statuses, including faculty, staff, postdoctoral, graduate, undergraduate, alumni, emeritus, and others.

Our name pays homage to historical movements such as non-cooperation in India, resistance to apartheid in South Africa, and the struggle for civil rights in the United States. We feel called to follow in the footsteps of these inspiring organizers and will continue to respect their legacy.

SANO is a private alliance not officially affiliated with the University. While we may disagree in opinion or approach, we are generally advocating for similar values and principles, including the duty to defend human rights and the power of education.

SANO believes in the value and power of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility (DEIBA) and strongly advocates for the promotion of these principles.
